48 miles with 3400’ of climbing and a blast of a descent from Donner Summit to Donner Lake. The Cisco downhill is also fun and scenic, along the South Yuba River (creek this time of year). Cisco Grove road is a bit rough and bumpy but reportedly potholes have been repaired. A gravel bike might not be a bad choice for this ride due to road conditions but either should be fine,
Shorter options to turn around at Soda Springs, or even the top of Donner. Can also throw in a lap around Serene Lakes with minimal added climbing and a little extra distance (would make about 30-35 miles total).
Through town, will be a mix of bike paths, streets and the main drag. Typically busy along north shore of Donner Lake (especially on the return), so important to bring blinky lights and ride respectfully - single file as best as possible. On the Donner descent, lots of tight turns with a very cool, scenic bridge.
Meet at the Truckee Rec Center, 8am for wheels up at 8:30 sharp. To get to the Rec Center, exit I80 at the first Truckee exit, north on CA89 toward Sierraville and left at the first round-a-bout onto Truckee Way, then third exit at the next round-a-bout into the parking lot. Park in the far southwest part of the lot.
